Join us for a conversation marking the release of Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008, a new bilingual publication co-published by Asia Art Archive and Tai Kwun Contemporary.

📅 Date and Time: May 13, 2026 (Wednesday) ⏰ 6:30 PM – 8:00 PM

📍 Venue: Asia Art Archive Library

The publication presents twelve essays by leading curators, critics, and scholars alongside entries on eighty-five artists, offering one of the most substantial attempts to map contemporary art in China through the social, cultural, and political transformations since 2008. Combining critical writing and archival research, the book situates artistic practice within wider cultural and social shifts that are still being negotiated.

Bringing together the five editors involved in shaping the volume, this conversation will reflect on what it means to assemble a publication of this scale: how a recent and rapidly shifting art history is framed, what kinds of works and narratives come to stand for a period, and how editorial, curatorial, and archival perspectives intersect in the writing of the present.

Since 2000, AAA has been committed to collecting, digitising, and activating archival materials, research documentation, and library collections concerning recent art in China. This publication project not only marks a significant collaboration with Tai Kwun Contemporary but also serves as a critical starting point for AAA to map out future research trajectories. It enables AAA to deepen its engagement with archives of contemporary art practices after 2008, with a particular focus on the complexities and possibilities presented by the digital era.

Stay Connected: Art and China Since 2008 is made possible by the generous support for research by the De Ying Foundation and for production by Hawk HE – Octone Foundation.
