The fourth scholar-led tour of the group exhibition “The Great Camouflage” at the Shanghai Rockbund Art Museum, honorably supported by Octone Foundation will be presented on April, 16, 2026.

This session features curator Dr. Shen Qilan as the guiding voice. Dr. Shen will lead the tour around the central theme of concealment and narrative. “The Great Camouflage” emerges from the notions of what is hidden as well as strategical concealment. Art, in this context, becomes a means of re-sensing and recalibrating our place within historical time. It offers one of the vital pathways through which we review history today.

Shen Qilan holds a Ph.D. in Philosophy from the University of Münster, Germany. She is a curator, cultural scholar, and writer whose work and exhibitions are imbued with poetic qualities, creating unique dialogues between literature, art, and philosophy. In 2025, she was honored as “Curator of the Year” by Robb Report and Bazaar Art for her outstanding curatorial achievements and broad influence.

Shanghai Rockbund Art Museum

Inaugurated in 2010, the Rockbund Art Museum (RAM) is a non-profit arts organization in Shanghai. Situated within an Art Deco building originally built for the Royal Asiatic Society in 1932, this historical architecture has been restored and renovated by the David Chipperfield Architects.

In considering what it means to be a Shanghai-based contemporary art museum in the 21st century, RAM aims to explore the importance of "archipelago thinking": connecting to artistic culture across Asia and beyond to gain richer perspectives on today's challenges, imaginations, practices, and networks within contemporary artistic practices. We wish to build constructive, creative relationships between multiple localities in Asia and different cultures globally to create a hub for working with a broad range of artists, researchers, and scholars.
